Vodafone Doubles Data Rates For 2G And 3G Subscribers In India

Vodafone, the second largest mobile network operator in India, has announced a twofold rise in its PAYG (Pay As You Go) tariffs. PAYG tariffs for both 2G and 3G Internet users using Vodafone services will now be 4 paise per 10 KB. Earlier, subscribers had to pay 2 paise per 10 KB. 

The change in tariff rates is applicable to both prepaid and postpaid customers in India. All regions will fall under the new Vodafone tariff change, which is currently being rolled out in a phased manner. 

According to a media report, a Vodafone India spokesperson has asserted that the telecom operator still offers the lowest standard mobile Internet charges in the industry for both prepaid and post-paid customers. 

The Vodafone representative, however, stopped short of mentioning a reason for the current hike in the PAYG prices. 

In an attempt to attract more customers for its mobile Internet services, Vodafone slashed its 2G data rates by 80% in October 2013. This had brought its 2G data rates on PAYG mode on par with those of its 3G tariffs for the same.
